If you’re considering seeking support from a Sunshine Coast psychologist, it’s natural to have questions about the process, services available, and what to expect. At Collective Health Co, we aim to provide clarity and support as you navigate your mental health journey.

What Services Are Offered at Collective Health Co?

We offer support for:

  • Eating disorders and disordered eating

Our approach is collaborative, recognising that many health issues benefit from an integrated perspective. We also offer group therapy programs and support for parents and carers.

Do I Need a Referral to See a Sunshine Coast Psychologist?

No, you don’t need a referral to see a psychologist at Collective Health Co You can self-refer and request an appointment at any time. However, if you wish to access Medicare rebates through a Mental Health Care Plan, Eating Disorder Treatment Plan, or Chronic Conditions Management Plan, you’ll need to consult your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician to determine eligibility.

What Happens in the First Session?

Your first session is an opportunity to get to know your psychologist and discuss your goals for therapy. With your consent, the psychologist will explain their approach, discuss confidentiality, and talk with you to understand your needs and therapeutic goals. This session helps determine if the psychologist is the right fit for you and allows a treatment plan to be developed by your psychologist for your ongoing support.

How Long Are Sessions?

Psychology sessions are typically 50 minutes in length.

Dietitian sessions vary: initial appointments are usually 60 minutes, while review sessions are approximately 45 minutes.

Are Telehealth Sessions Available?

Yes, Collective Health Co offers telehealth or phone sessions if it is not easy for you to travel to a Sunshine Coast psychologist. This option is available to clients across the Sunshine Coast and throughout Australia, including those in rural areas.

What If I Don’t Feel My Psychologist Is the Right Fit?

It’s important to feel comfortable with your psychologist. If you feel your current psychologist isn’t the right fit, we have a selection of psychologists within our practice and can help you find someone who better suits your needs.

What Are the Fees?

Collective Health Co is a private billing practice, and fees vary depending on the clinician. You can view each clinician’s fee on the Booking page. If you are eligible and referred under a Medicare care plan (such as a Mental Health Care Plan or Eating Disorder Treatment Plan), you will need to pay the full session fee upfront and then receive your rebate into your bank account.

Please note that care plans are not bulk billed, and there will be a gap payment depending on your clinician’s fee. Some private health funds may also offer rebates—please check with your fund to see what’s available to you.
